Is Aadhaar document update mandatory?

 


Aadhaar document update  is not mandatory, but the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) encourages residents to do so. The UIDAI advices residents to update documents at least once every 10 years.  Document update means submitting Proof of Identity (POI) and POA (Proof of Address) or any other relevant documents.

☛ If it is not mandatory, why does UIDAI says December 14 as last date?

The UIDAI is allowing residents to update their documents free of cost (without charge) till 14th June. After this, residents can still update by paying Rs. 50

☛ Who are strongly advised to update document?

A resident who has enrolled for Aadhaar about 10 years ago and has never updated or submitted POI and POA documents are strongly advised to update/ submit the said documents.

Updating Aadhaar documents can make life easier, improve service delivery, and ensure accurate and valid information for authentication.

  • Voter Identity Card (as both POI & POA)
  • ST/SC/OBC/Domicile Certificate (as POI)
  • Government-issued identity card or certificate with address (as both POI & POA)
  • Indian Passport (as both POI & POA)
  • PAN Card (as POI)
  • Driving License (as POI)
  • Class 10th Marksheet or School Leaving Certificate with photograph (as POI)
  • Electricity/water/gas bill (last 3 months) (as POA)
  • Rent/lease/leave Agreement  (as POA)

☛ You can also update your demographic details, such as name, address, gender, and date of birth, as well as your biometrics, such as fingerprints, iris, and photograph.
